I Choose Today...

be faithful to deliver the good news.

Good morning, my friend. Today I was looking out the window, the ground covered in heavy white frost. I love this time of year. Actually, I love every season. Even though it’s not snow here in North Carolina, the frost reminds me of snow and of my days delivering papers as a kid. It’s had to believe that was over 50 years ago. The “Sturgis Daily Journal” was delivered to our house Monday through Saturday about 3:00 in the afternoon in one large bundle and sometimes more if there were advertisements  My brothers would all take how many they needed and we would head out to deliver the papers. In Michigan we got lots of snow. They call it lake effect, but all I can say is, it’s heavy snow. There where many times that we walked to deliver the papers because the snow would make it difficult to ride our bikes. But like the postman, we were faithful and delivered the good news to the people that were waiting for their newspaper. It was before cell phones and when it got dark and we were not home yet, mom would start calling people on our route to see where

To sit and wait on Jesus

Good morning my friend, I am reading  Psalm 139:1-4  “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say before I say it.” I’m going back to school and I’m trying to get everything entered on my computer and iphone. I’m used to the “old school way.” One of the things I need is my High School diploma. I remember seeing it a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t put it back where it was. So I called my High School and they are looking for a copy. But, I did find my graduation invitation and the bulletin from my church. I even found my graduation picture.  But, not the diploma. As I am reading this passage, we have a God that knows everything and yet why is He the last One I go to? The Lord told us over and over to come to Him, so this morning I once again ask the

not to be anxious

Good morning, my friend. I have a job interview today and I am so excited and anxious at the same time. I am applying as a chaplain in a university hospital. My verse for today is Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the ONE who goes with you. He will  not leave you nor forsake you.” Moses was telling the people not to worry or be afraid because God will be the one to lead them through their next leader, Joshua. Then in verse 7 He tells Joshua in front of all Israel, “Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them. and you shall cause them to inherit it.” I know the people were anxious, too. But they also looked to their leader to calm them. God calmed Moses heart, then Moses calmed the peoples’ hearts. Then with God’s help, Moses calmed Joshua’s heart. Today you might be anxious, but we know that God is in control. Not because I say it, but because

to say goodbye to stress

We all put undue stress on ourselves and I’m a fine example of this. One of the blessings or gifts the Lord Jesus has given me is to visit and encourage people. I love nothing better than to be there to help them. But in those times, I can either create stress and fuel the situation or just listen. I have been told that stress can be controlled if we just sit on our hands and focus on the person that we are there to encourage. Every morning I have a choice to make. Do I want to live a stressful life and “do it myself?” Or am I willing to turn it over to the Lord? This morning I had to slow down and let the Holy Spirit speak. If not, I will try and do it myself, make a mess and create more stress. Today I choose to say goodbye to stress, to take a deep breath, breathe out slowly and relax. I know that this is the hard part. I must ask the Lord to take this and let Him handle it. It’s ok to say goodbye to trying to be in control.  Philippians 3:7,8  “I once

to share in the joy

A number of years ago when my nephew, Daniel, was living here at Siloam Missionary Homes, it started to snow. They were huge flakes and you could hardly see because it was coming down so hard. His dad, John, called me on the phone and I heard his son say, “Dad, tell Uncle Larry to come outside and share the joy!”  They were missionaries from Manaus, Brazil and never had seen snow!  He was so excited and he wanted to share the snow with me. Isn’t that the way we need to be about Jesus?  He has given me joy and it makes me want to share the joy of my salvation. Psalm 51: 8-10  “Oh, give me back joy again; you have broken me – now let me rejoice.” So today, my friend, share the joy of your salvation with a friend and bless them as He has so blessed you. Smile, God loves you, and so do I.
