I Choose Today to work on small things

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” We tend to think of this verse for the big things: not getting a job, losing a loved one, a medical diagnosis, etc.. But what about the small stuff, the little things? Recently, I had a conversation with a customer service person about a mistake that happened on a shipment. After explaining the problem (there was a glitch in their system), she started off her explanation by saying I needed to be better at checking things on my end. Well that just got my heckles up and I responded in a negative way. The conversation escalated to where we were each responding negatively to one another and not really resolving the issue. The Holy Spirit convicted me so I stopped the conversation by asking her to talk to my husband because I needed to get to a meeting. The conversation between this rep and my husband lasted 3 minutes in which resulted in a resolution of the situation. So, how is this for good, you ask? Seems to me that

I Choose Today to change my clothes…

God’s Word is FULL of practical principles for living everyday life. In Paul’s letter to the Colossians, God illustrates how we are to receive and treat others with whom we come in contact. Paul instructs, “Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” How counter-culture are these instructions? Where being offensive, offended, and hostile are all the rage (no pun intended), God instructs us once again to go against the grain and do the unexpected: Make allowances for one another; In this text, “make allowances for one another” means being understanding and forgiving of each other’s faults, shortcomings, or mistakes. It suggests a willingness to be patient and considerate, recognizing that nobody is perfect and that people may occasionally err or fall short of expectations. It encourages giving forgiveness, grace, and mercy to one another. Forgive: In the context of the text, “forgive” means to pardon or let go

To forgive and to forget

Today I choose to forgive and to forget. I am reminded of the scripture that Paul used in Second Corinthians 2:5-13. When the troublemaker came and asked for forgiveness, the people forgave, but did not forget. We know that sin has its consequences, but as believers do we harbor sin and say, “I can’t forget?” This gives such grief on the repentant person that it makes them feel insecure and try to run from those who really do want to forgive and forget. That is why we need to forgive as Jesus forgives. When Jesus saw the woman that was caught in adultery, He asked, “Who are your accusers?” When she looked around, they were gone. And then Jesus told her, “Go and sin no more.” In other words “go and change your life.” That means it’s over – paid in full by the blood of Jesus! Today I need to forgive and forget. That’s what Jesus did and we should strive to do that as well. His death and resurrection paid it all!
