I Choose Today to Fix My Mind

It seems like for so long people have been shamed into thinking you cannot talk about dealing with anxiety. They were taught that if you were riddled with anxiety, then you were weak or emotionally disturbed, or not acting like a Christian should. Even Jesus was tormented. The devil tried to do to Him what he is most successful in doing to us: lie and torment us when we are in our weakened state. But even in a weakened state while in the wilderness (which is where we often find ourselves in time of anxiousness), Jesus  defeated the devil by quoting scripture and knowing the truth of God’s Word. As we know, “the truth will set you free!” Free from worry. Free from anxiety. Free from the lies with which the devil tries to torment us. ”And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.“Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬ When we find ourselves being anxious, we need to run to God’s Word, reset our minds by focusing on the good, honorable, just, excellent Word: fix

to let the words of my mouth be pleasing to You, O Lord.

Good morning my friend, Today I was reading in Psalms 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”  This reminded me of a trip that we took to Manus, Brazil to visit my brother-in-law, John and his wife, Rebecca Hawkins. (They were missionaries and John was teaching in a Bible college.)  Joyce and I took three pastors with us to see the work the Hawkins were doing. John gave each pastor a day to speak and challenge the students. As Americans, we have our own creative ways to warm up a crowd. So when John introduced one of the pastors, he got up an said something in a joking manner about Pastor John’s character. The room grew silent. The pastors were immediately offended because in their culture you would never say this. It would be considered a major insult. So, John had to explain this to us and then to the pastors in Portuguese and the men laughed. We all learned that day the importance of being very careful what was said. This has been a great lesson for me. Sometimes in what I

I Choose Today to know love

This morning I woke up and this verse was playing on a repeat in my mind, ”So the Word [Christ Jesus] became human and made his home among us…”. I got to thinking about this verse and asked “why?”. Why would Jesus come down from heaven, from His throne and place of honor, to live among us as a mere human? Well to get my answer, I only had to read the rest of the passage! “…God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. But the unique One [Jesus], who is Himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.“ John‬ ‭1‬:‭17b-‭18‬. Jesus came to reveal God to us. Since God is love (unfailing love), Jesus came to show us His true nature: loving kindness, gentleness, goodness, sweetness, delight. Not legalism; not condemnation; but to save; to know God’s perfect love; to have a real relationship with the Creator of the universe; to give life abundantly now and for eternity. Who wouldn’t want that life? Who wouldn’t want the guarantee to live forever in constant relationship with God? Why would anyone chance that for hoping they are right

I Choose Today to share hope in trauma…

He makes ALL things new and fresh! If you have been through something traumatic, then you have experienced trauma. Trauma is not normal. Trauma is not to be minimized or marginalized. Trauma is not meant to be compared. The other day, I was asked to lead a group of moms in our church’s MOPS ministry. The topic was anxiety and depression. One of the discussion questions asked, ‘Have you ever lost something you had been anxious about losing?’ and ‘Was it easier or harder than you had anticipated?’ My answer to these questions was ‘yes’ to both. Yes, I have lost something, and yes, it was harder than anticipated. These questions had me asking the Lord for wisdom on what to share with these young ladies. But I felt the Holy Spirit encouraging me to talk about my traumatic experience of losing my son to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS); a mother’s worst nightmare. But when I talked about my worst anxiety coming true, I also talked about how God was (is) present to help in healing and walking me through the trauma. I talked about even when your anxiety is realized, God is there to: – take your hand
