I Choose Today...

To share Good Tidings of Great Joy!

Good morning, my friend. I woke up today feeling so much better after dealing with the flu for the past week. This morning, Joyce and I were greeted by a wonderful news that our nephew, Andrew Briggs and his wife Kristen, had a baby girl yesterday. Heika Ann Briggs, born 12/14/23, 6lbs 9oz, 20″long. What a beautiful baby. As our hearts rejoice, I thank the Lord for this special gift from God. During this Christmas Season I’m looking for ways to share Good Tidings of Great Joy! And this little girl can be one of those joys. Children are the greatest gift we have. Another way to share Good Tidings and Great Joy is by just smiling and greeting people warmly.  It makes us happy.  Last evening my mom (now 87) and I went to McDonalds. As we walked in, we greeted every person we met with a smile. When our order came, we smiled at the person that brought our dinner and said, “Thank you”. This encouraged the waiter and he left with a smile on his face. As we ate, Mom and I watched two little boys about 3-4 years old playing in the play area and it

I Choose Today to be a good gift giver

I love Christmas. I love the twinkly lights, the gathering together with family, friends, and co-workers to celebrate the birth of Christ. One of my favorite things is to buy gifts for the people in my family. I have a rule, “buy what they want, not what they need.” This gives me so much joy to give them something they want to open up on Christmas morning. It is so much fun for me to give gifts! I remember one year I wanted to buy my daughter a diamond ring for her middle finger. I wanted it to be classic, to stand the test of time, so she would want to wear it for years to come. I searched for the right one and finally found one that I thought she would like. She absolutely loved it! That was 13 years ago and she still wears it whenever she can. It brought me so much joy to give it to her. God loves to give good and perfect gifts to His children (James 1:17). I am sure it delights Him when we use the gifts He gives with joy! Gifts given by God are to be used to leave a

to share in the joy

A number of years ago when my nephew, Daniel, was living here at Siloam Missionary Homes, it started to snow. They were huge flakes and you could hardly see because it was coming down so hard. His dad, John, called me on the phone and I heard his son say, “Dad, tell Uncle Larry to come outside and share the joy!”  They were missionaries from Manaus, Brazil and never had seen snow!  He was so excited and he wanted to share the snow with me. Isn’t that the way we need to be about Jesus?  He has given me joy and it makes me want to share the joy of my salvation. Psalm 51: 8-10  “Oh, give me back joy again; you have broken me – now let me rejoice.” So today, my friend, share the joy of your salvation with a friend and bless them as He has so blessed you. Smile, God loves you, and so do I.

to let everyday be like Christmas.

Joyce and I are going through a Bible plan together and each day is like Christmas morning to me. Growing up as a little boy, I remember well the excitement that would start to build at Thanksgiving. In those days, you waited until the day after Thanksgiving to put up your Christmas decorations. Our Christmas would begin with getting the Christmas tree. I know it’s hard to believe, but we could buy a tree for $7.00. They were in the front yard of Mrs. Miller’s house. I remember one year that I had $5.00 in my pocket from delivering newspapers and Mrs. Miller let me purchase one of her trees for the $5.00 I had. This was before cell phones and I suddenly realized I had no way to get it home!  And on top of all this, I still had newspapers to deliver. I remember finishing my route and then getting my brothers to help me put the tree on a sled and drag it home. Just writing this makes me excited for Christmas to come. We can carry the joy of Christmas every day by spending time with the Lord and reading His words of joy. One of

to make joy more than a “Sunday Event.”

Good morning, my friend. I love Luke’s account of “The Ascension” in Luke 24:50-53. “Then Jesus led them (the disciples) to Bethany, and lifted up His hands to heaven. He blessed them and was taken up to heaven. So they worshiped Him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. And they spent all of their time in the temple, praising God.” (NLT) Acts 2:46,47 “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily these who were being saved.” The joy of the Lord is what people will see in us. It’s not just a Sunday event.
