I Choose Today to follow my Guide

The verse I always write in graduation cards is Psalms 32:8, which reads, “The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” When these young people are heading out to a world of choices, possibilities, freedoms, and uncertainties, having a guide is liberating and peaceful! However, in this verse it does not say God is giving us guidance, but instead He Himself is our guide! I recently went on a work trip where we had a social hour (more like three hours) where coworkers who only work together virtually get to visit with one another face to face. One of my coworkers wanted to head back to the hotel before everyone else, so he asked a friend to give him guidance on how to get back to the hotel, who in turn gave him landmarks in which to get back. When he stepped outside to leave, he discovered it had turned dark. Needless to say, the guidance, those landmarks were no longer visible, and my coworker got turned around and wandered for over an hour. A trek that should have taken less than five minutes took a

to lean on the Everlasting Arms.

Good morning, my friend. What a beautiful fall day! Joyce and I take a walk down Holman Mill Road most mornings as the sun comes up. (Yes, Rachel, the sun does come up in the east! LOL)  It’s our time together and we don’t allow our cell phones to disrupt us during this time. Today we watched a flock of Canadian geese squawking overhead as they began their migration. But, they were flying north!  We also watched as one family was herding their children into a waiting van, ready to head to school. Yet, in the busyness of the morning we had a sense of overwhelming peace. This peace comes from knowing, first of all, that we are not alone, but have each other. Second, the Lord reminds us that we are not alone because we have Him. So what if the Canadian Geese seem to be going the wrong way!  All the yelling and handwaving will not change anything. Like a pastor told me, “It’s none of your business!” So let’s enjoy today.  Like the old hymn says, “What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms.” I’m still learning to lean. Smile, God loves you,

I Choose Today to be embolden by the power of God’s Word

God: the source of all power. David spent most of his development years out with the sheep. This job was a dirty job, a lowly job, an unregarded job, a lonely/isolated job. But it was during this time where David got to love God, His Word, and see Him in action. God was David’s constant companion. David noticed God in everything he saw. David depended on God for his and his sheep’s basic needs and protection. His relationship with God was very personal (that is probably why David was torn up when people disrespected/disregarded God’s Word/laws/decrees). David relied on God’s strength every day while tending to his sheep, which served as a training ground for the challenges he would later face. I think that is why the Psalms are so encouraging. They are like a balm for our souls. They resonate with us because we can relate to David’s struggles, but we also witness his deep relationship with the Lord. David depended on God for the strength and power to make it through each day, each struggle, and to not loose hope. David used the power of God’s Word to encourage, strengthen, embolden, and comfort him through his trials. I

to heed the call to “Persevere”

Good morning my friend, it’s a beautiful fall day here. The air is crisp and we had a heavy frost last night. The leaves have changed to a vivid canvas of God’s creation. Soon all the leaves will be down and we will see a new season of winter. I love the season changes in North Carolina. The saying here is “If you don’t like the weather, wait until tomorrow, it will change.” I want to encourage you today to read Hebrews 10:19-25. “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can BOLDLY enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By His death Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts, fully trusting Him. For our guilty conscience has been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep HIS Promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one

I Choose Today to change my clothes…

God’s Word is FULL of practical principles for living everyday life. In Paul’s letter to the Colossians, God illustrates how we are to receive and treat others with whom we come in contact. Paul instructs, “Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” How counter-culture are these instructions? Where being offensive, offended, and hostile are all the rage (no pun intended), God instructs us once again to go against the grain and do the unexpected: Make allowances for one another; In this text, “make allowances for one another” means being understanding and forgiving of each other’s faults, shortcomings, or mistakes. It suggests a willingness to be patient and considerate, recognizing that nobody is perfect and that people may occasionally err or fall short of expectations. It encourages giving forgiveness, grace, and mercy to one another. Forgive: In the context of the text, “forgive” means to pardon or let go
