I Choose Today...

Focus on Godly Wisdom

Good morning my friend, this is the week I start going to school. I am excited and nervous at the same time. Today I have to get my I.D. badge and make sure I’m ready for school to begin in the morning. I got up early to spend time with the Lord and want to continue to keep this as part of my daily routine.

Proverbs 8:32-36 “And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors, for whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; and those who hate me love death.  Wow, what a passage. We spend a lifetime searching for wisdom, and here it is.

For those of you that know me. I have a hard time staying focused and with this comes the challenge of completing the task before me. When I went to work for Redman Homes at the age of 23, I worked for Frank Fought, who was the Production Manager of the plant in Topeka, Indiana. I remember my interview in the front corner of the main office with him and Skip Miller. Frank was asking me a lot of questions, when he looked out the window and saw my wife, Joyce, with our little baby sitting in our rusty old 1964 Chevy pickup. He asked me if that was my wife out there and when I said, “Yes,” Frank told me to go get her. So I went out and said, “They want to meet you.” I was so excited for them to met my wife and see my baby, Rachel. I didn’t understand at the time, but Frank and Skip, through their wisdom in hiring people, knew that if a person has a happy family life, they will be good workers. This was the beginning of a 10-year journey that brought me to North Carolina. Frank saw in me a drive to succeed. But he also knew that he had to keep me focused.

I realize now that the Lord is once again reminding me the that the key to succeeding is staying focused on HIM, because that is where I find wisdom.

As we move forward in our lives, it doesn’t matter if today is the first day of a new semester or the beginning of a new job or career. If I follow the Lord’s leading, I will be able to use this schooling as a tool to complete what He wants for me.

Please pray for me today as I get ready for tomorrow. That I will stay focused on the prize before me – wisdom.

Smile God loves you and so do I.

  2. Wow, what a passage and a great reminder. Good luck in your new journey. Keeping the main thing as the main thing is a constant struggle, but the juice is worth the squeeze (“whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.”).
