I Choose Today to Feed From the Tree of Life

Genesis 2:9 (NIV) – “The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

Many still feed on the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, but God will feed you from within, where the Tree of Life has been planted.

In the beginning, God created a perfect garden, teeming with life and beauty. In the heart of this garden, He planted two significant trees—the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. These trees represent a choice that mankind has faced throughout history and continues to face today—the choice between relying on our own understanding and seeking God’s divine wisdom.

Many still feed on the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, just as Adam and Eve did when they reached for the forbidden fruit. This tree represents our human inclination to determine right from wrong on our terms, to trust in our limited understanding of the world, and to rely solely on our own intellect and judgment. The result of this choice is mostly confusion, brokenness, and separation from God.

But God offers us a better way. He invites us to feed from the Tree of Life, which He has planted within us. This tree symbolizes a deep, intimate connection with Him, where His wisdom, grace, and love flow freely. When we choose to seek God’s wisdom and guidance, we experience true spiritual nourishment and transformation.

Here are three key lessons we can learn from this divine invitation:

1. Surrender to God’s Wisdom: Instead of relying solely on our human understanding, let us surrender our lives to God’s wisdom. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

2. Seek Intimacy with God: Cultivate a deep and personal relationship with God through prayer, worship, and studying His Word. When we seek God’s presence, we draw closer to the source of true life.

3. Bear the Fruit of the Spirit: As we feed on the Tree of Life, we become vessels of God’s love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). This fruit nourishes not only our souls but also bless those around us.

The choice is ours. We can continue to reach for the fruit of human knowledge, or we can turn inward to the Tree of Life that God has planted within us. When we choose to feed on the wisdom, love, and grace of our Creator, we experience true abundance and eternal life.

Let us make the choice to feed from the Tree of Life today and every day, drawing closer to the source of all life and wisdom—our loving Heavenly Father.
