To Run

I choose today to run…

I love that the Word of God is alive! David illustrated this so beautifully in his prayer to God when he says, ”As those out to get me come closer and closer, they go farther and farther from the truth you reveal; But you’re the closest of all to me, God, and all your judgments true. I’ve known all along from the evidence of your words that you meant them to last forever.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭149-‭152‬ ‭MSG (I chose the MGS version for vs 149).

They’re so much to unpack here. In verse 149, David talks about King Saul coming after him. Saul is being consumed by his own pride and jealousy that it is taking him further and further away from God and His will. That is what happens when sin is left untouched, unresolved, unrepented; it festers, becomes all-consuming, and draws us further and further from God and His will for our lives! That is what happened to Saul, God’s favor left him and he was driven by his all-consuming sin. That was the beginning of the end for Saul. We need to heed the warning the angel of the Lord gave to Lot and his family as they were escaping sin (sin-filled city), “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!” Gen. 19:17

Instead, we are to do as Paul says in 1 Tim 6:11, “…so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” In both of these examples, we are to run from our sin and pursue the safety of God and His provision/safety. Just like David, who knew of God’s legacy of faithfulness, knew His Word would live on forever, knew His closeness, knew of God’s provision and safety, he knew God would prevail, therefore David just needed to keep focused and persevere.

What a beautiful illustration of the difference between living God’s truth or living in all-consuming sin (which is Satan’s lie).

“Lord, thank You, that Your Word is alive and is meant to live on in the hearts and lives of Your people forever! Thank You for using David, a flawed man but one after Your own heart, to speak Your truth into us millenniums later! Your Words are as true today as they were when they were penned. Help us to know, study, meditate, live Your truth. Holy Spirit, empower us to pursue righteousness and a godly life. We want to run into Your arms where we belong. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
