I Choose Today...

I Choose Today to be Seen

A few weeks ago I wrote about loosing my cool with a customer service representative. I wrote about how God can use my mistakes to teach me. Well, I had the opportunity last week to put my new lesson learned into practice. I was coming home from a trip and had a carryon that was my personal item. The airline decided my bag was too big (even though it wasn’t on my first flight), and I would need to pay almost $100. I was frustrated as I getting onto the plane. The flight attendant approached me and ask me what was wrong. After the initial frustration, I found myself faced with a choice during the flight; to take out my frustration on the staff of the airline, or be kind to the flight attendant. I choose the latter. During the flight, the flight attendant told me I could probably get my money back if I email the airline. She asked for my email so she could give me the information. I handed her one of my “I Choose Today” business cards with my email on it. She walked away. She came back a time later and asked me what “I

I Choose Today to do Life with God

Dwell in the house of the Lord forever… Does praying intimidate you? Does the idea of praying leave you stumped on how to begin, what to say, or even how to talk to the God of the universe? My sister and I live far apart from one another: one in the western part and one on the eastern part of the country. We maybe see each other once or twice a year. However, we do not let our proximity to one another get in the way of enjoying our relationship together. We can spend hours on the phone just doing life together. We could be running errands, cleaning the house, making dinner, driving home from the city (which for me is about an hour). Sometimes she bumps into someone she knows and has a conversation, and I just hang out as if I was standing next to her.  When she is done, we pick up where we left off. We can have a deep conversation, talk about our problems, give each other guidance, laugh together, cry together, be still and quiet together. That is the relationship David had with God. All David wanted to do was spend all his time

I Choose Today to Not Be Enticed

Satan is arrogant. He was arrogant to think he could entice the Son of God to sin. Satan waited until Jesus was weak from hunger to tempt Him. ”Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”“ Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬ He also spoke to Jesus’ arrogance (if He were) to do things out of the will of God: use His power to turn stones into bread; give Jesus the whole kingdom if He bowed down and worshipped Satan. He was speaking to His flesh, His arrogance. That is what he did to Adam and Eve (that they would know good and evil like God). That is what he does to us. That is what he does to me. Waiting for the opportunity of weakness to strike. But Jesus is the opposite of arrogant; He is humble. Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. He wants us to follow the example He sets

I Choose Today to embrace the gift of peace

Everyone goes through hard times in life; absolutely everyone. These hard times are often referred to as storms we get caught up in. I’ve been through some amazingly difficult storms in my life.  Some with embracing the peace of God and others attempting to find inner peace on my own. Needless to say, having the peace of God, that transcends all understanding, is the only way to find the peace to navigate the storms of life. There are over 400 verses in the Bible that talk about the gift of peace. Here are a few promises of the peace that Jesus and God promise to Their people: 1. Philippians 4:7 (ESV) – “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” 2. John 14:27 (ESV) – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” 3. Isaiah 26:3 (ESV) – “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.” These verses demonstrate the divine and life changing nature of

I Choose Today to Follow

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow Me.” Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭24‬ ‭NLT‬‬ I think we have all had alarms go off for us personally we chose to ignore, wanting our own way, which, as we all know, lead further and further into sin and despair. As we all know, that one decision to ignore the warning, leads down a path to more and more sin; being led by the sin instead of subduing it. But we cannot do anything about ignoring past alarms, but we can repent and ask the Holy Spirit to redeem our sin (which Jesus already did on the cross), and choose not to ignore the warning bells going forward. Ask the Lord to use the mistakes made for His glory and don’t allow the enemy to keep reminding us of the mistakes of the past (so we cannot be fully focused on God and what God has for us to do in His perfect plan). Reminding us of our mistakes is one of the schemes of the devil, to get us to follow our sinful nature,
