I Choose Today to Hear God’s Whisper

Have you ever had someone whisper something to you? You know, you are in a meeting, or a crowded place and someone wants to tell you something that is just for your ears? The words are so important to the whisperer that they felt compelled to share their message at that very moment. In the midst of life bustling around, they want to tell you something significant. How do you posture yourself in order to hear the whispered words? You probably lean (get closer) into the whisperer ever so slightly; maybe with your head and ear. You may close your eyes in a focused attempt to hear better. You drown out the noise around you, quieting your mind, so you can concentrate on the message. You don’t want to miss a word of the whispered message. In this moment, there is an intimacy between you and the whisperer. A moment where it is just a conversation for the two of you. Can you imagine this scenario? I’m sure you have been in this situation before, so it is not too difficult to imagine. We know the feeling of intimacy a shared whisper creates when experienced with another, but what about

I Choose Today to Worship with Thanksgiving

One of the beautiful ways we can worship God is by expressing gratitude for all He has done for us. In scripture, various forms and names of worship are mentioned. Today, let’s delve into the Hebrew word “Towdah” (תוֹדָה), which means “thanksgiving” or “praise.” Towdah is an expression of deep gratitude and reverence towards God. Here are a few instances of Towdah in the Bible: Psalm 50:14: “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving (תוֹדָה), and fulfill your vows to the Most High.” Psalm 95:2: “Let us come before him with thanksgiving (תוֹדָה) and extol him with music and song.” Psalm 100:4: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving (תוֹדָה) and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 107:22: “Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving (תוֹדָה) and tell of his works with songs of joy.” These verses underscore the importance of expressing thanksgiving and praise (Towdah) to God for His blessings, provision, and unwavering faithfulness. Consider King David, who penned many Psalms in the midst of adversity. How could he offer thanks (Towdah) while facing turmoil? David’s secret lay in reflecting on God’s faithfulness. He remembered how God helped him defeat giants, lions, and bears. David

I Choose Today to focus on my destiny

I just love Simon Peter. Peter was the most bold, outspoken, and enthusiastic of all the disciples. He was the first to put himself out there for God; to take a stand, to be bold in how he felt, to be a leader among his peers. But even Peter lost his courage when he took his focus off God, as illustrated in Matthew 14:30-31,  “But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” I surmise that Jesus was teaching Peter, the other disciples, and you and me that in order to achieve anything for Christ, we need to keep our focus squarely on Him. Jesus knew what was in store for Peter and He was preparing him for his destiny. Jesus knew Peter would need to be bold, take a stand, and be courageous in his destiny: spreading the Good News of Jesus. Therefore, Jesus was preparing and reminding Peter where his strength, courage, boldness came from, so he could reach the destination (his destiny) for which God

To Stay Focused

I choose today to stay focused “Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭165‬ ‭NLT‬‬ David knew the importance of being strong and not growing weary. David understood that if he stumbled, because he was being pursued, he would be caught by the enemy. He knew his strength came from God’s Word. His peace also came from keeping his focus on God and His goodness and deliverance. It is good to know who our enemy is; Satan and not others. Satan is the great deceiver. He takes the  20% of which is not good and makes that our focus instead of the 80% of what is good. He makes it seem like the bad is all there is; that there is no way out of it or getting beyond it other than to quit (give up, walk away) from relationships, neighbors, coworkers, family. He makes it seem like quitting/walking away is our only option for peace. But that is a big fat lie! God Word says (through David, Joshua, Isaiah, Jesus) that when we meditate on God’s Word, we will find new strength, prosper in all we do, not stumble but stand, not grow
