It is interesting to see that Satan uses the same tactic with Jesus that he did to Adam and Eve: manipulation. He is crafty. He is trying to use God’s Word against Jesus perverting and misdirecting the true meaning of it.
Just like Matthew describes in chapter 4, “During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”” (verse 3). It is the same thing he does with us. His tactics don’t change; they are the same. He is the master manipulator.
So how do we combat the master manipulator? The same way Jesus did in chapter 4 of Matthew: He quotes/uses the Word of God! “But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 NLT
That is our offense, the Sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17))!
That gets me thinking about the importance of memorizing the Word of God! That way I will be ready take up the offensive by yielding the Sword of the Spirit when the devil tries to manipulate me or a situation! That is why all throughout God’s Word that He advises/instructs us to meditate on God’s Word, write the Word on our hearts, think about it day and night, so we will be ready to ward off the schemes of the devil.
This motivates me to read, study, and memorize God’s Word. Amen?
