I Choose Today

I Choose Today...

I Choose Today to use His Breath

At church yesterday, they sang a praise and worship song that just spoke to my heart called Great is the Lord by All Sons and Daughters (I put the link at the bottom so you can listen if you want).  The chorus says, “It’s your breath in my lungs, so I pour out my praise, pour out my praise… to You only.”

This brought to mind when God created Adam in the beginning.

“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ ‭

This verse tells me three things:

  • First, the Lord intentionally made Adam. He actively formed him on purpose for a purpose. There is a verse in Psalms (139:13) talking about how God knit us in our mother’s womb. Have you ever knitted something or known someone who knits? They have a plan, they take time in picking out the right attributes that will make a perfect product. This tells me He created us, yes, you, with intentionality and care. How amazing is that! That alone is a reason to give Him praise! Doesn’t that make you feel loved? Cared for? Cherished? Valuable? I know this invokes those feeling in me.
  • Secondly, it tells me that Adam was not alive, he was just a shell until God did an amazing thing: He breathed into Adam’s nostrils the breath of life! The God of the universe took the care to breathe life into him! He breathes life into us. He gives us life through His breath of life, His very essence! God gives us His essential breath another way too. According to 2 Timothy 3:16, God gave us His breath of life through His Word, “All Scripture is God-breathed” 2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬(a). Scripture is God. It is His very breath. How amazing, how precious, how incredible is that. We have God in His Word waiting for us to discover. Another reason to use our breath to pour out our praise!
  • Finally, the third thing I see from this verse is that it is through God I am alive, that I have a very soul, a true cause of life! Without Him, I would not be. Without His plan and purpose for my life, I would not be. Without His intentional care of knitting me together, I would not be. Without His breath, I would not be.

I hope you find encouragement in this verse; a reason to use “His breath in your lungs to pour out your praise to Him only.” Take a moment today to reflect on His greatness and express your gratitude. Because truly, great is your Lord. Amen!
