We’ve all been there—stuck in a season of waiting, wondering if God hears us. The tension of the unknown can feel heavy. Waiting tests our faith. It stirs doubts. It can make us question God’s timing.
But what if waiting isn’t wasted?
What if it’s the very space where God does His deepest work?
Today, I want to talk about what it really looks like to trust the process—not just conceptually, but in the middle of real life. Whether you’re waiting for healing, direction, provision, or peace, there are four postures that have helped me stay grounded in the wait.
1. Position Yourself with Expectancy
Habakkuk said, “I will climb to my watchtower and wait to see what the Lord says” (Habakkuk 2:1). He intentionally pulled away from the noise and made space to listen.
That’s what positioning ourselves looks like—it’s setting our hearts in expectancy, even when everything feels silent. Just like Zacchaeus climbing a tree to see Jesus, sometimes faith means doing the small, intentional thing to prepare for a big encounter.
“Just as a seed takes time to break through the soil before it bears fruit, God’s work in our lives is often unseen before it’s revealed.”
Where are you positioning yourself to hear from God right now?
2. Posture Your Heart in Surrender
Hannah cried out to the Lord with anguish—not with a list of demands, but with a surrendered heart. That posture—humble, trusting, open—is the posture that invites God to move.
“Surrender is the bridge between positioning ourselves before God and preparing for what He has next.”
When our hearts are truly surrendered, we stop striving. We don’t try to force doors open. We simply trust that God will lift us up in due time (James 4:10).
3. Prepare Faithfully for What’s Ahead
I once asked my husband what my gifts were. He said, “Speaking. Encouraging. Empowering others.” I believed that was my calling. But instead of opening doors for speaking, God led me to write.
At first, I felt hidden. Like I was sitting on the bench while everyone else was in the game. But now, I see—He wasn’t delaying the dream. He was deepening the vessel.
One of the best biblical examples of this is Joseph. Betrayed, sold, imprisoned—his path was long and painful. But God was preparing him in every unseen moment to lead a nation. And when the time was right, Joseph was ready.
“Waiting isn’t just about receiving what we’ve prayed for—it’s about becoming who we need to be to steward the answer well.”
4. Practice Presence in the Now
Being present doesn’t mean pretending everything’s fine. It means choosing to show up for what God is doing today, even if it’s small or quiet.
When we moved from California to the East Coast, Rick and I were looking for a house. We had different ideas about the budget, and we were outbid over and over again. It was exhausting. I drove across the country with our dog while Rick—handling the home search on his own for the first time—began to feel the tension and the nudge to surrender.
We didn’t know it yet, but we were waiting for our house—the one God had set aside. It just hadn’t hit the market yet.
The very day after I arrived, a new listing popped up. We toured it that same day and made an offer. It had everything we prayed for. But getting there required waiting, surrender, and presence in the in-between.
“When we remain present, we see His hand in the whispered reassurances and the unexpected blessings hidden in the ordinary.”
Until Next Time…
Waiting isn’t wasted. It’s where God does some of His deepest work.
So let’s choose today to trust the process:
To position ourselves with expectancy,
Posture our hearts in surrender,
Prepare faithfully,
And stay present in what God is doing right now.
Because He’s not late.
He’s working.
And He’s faithful.
