There is a verse in the Bible that used to confuse me a little. It’s found in Exodus 3:14.
God had just met Moses in the desert through a burning bush that was not consumed. He was sending Moses to Egypt to rescue the Israelites from oppression and slavery.
But Moses wasn’t convinced he was the right person. So he asked God in verse 13,
“Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is His name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
God’s answer is powerful:
“I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
What does I AM mean?
It means God is the One who always was, always is, and always will be. He is self-existing. Unchanging. Not dependent on anyone. Not limited. Not bound by time or circumstance.
He simply IS.
And because He is the eternal, self-sufficient God, it means something beautiful for us…
He is everything His people need.
He is healer.
He is rescuer.
He is provider.
He is strength.
He is sustainer.
He is comforter.
He is restorer.
He is conqueror.
Not because He fits into a list,
but because His nature is limitless.
The Bible says:
“There is no one like the LORD our God.” — Psalm 113:5
For Moses and the Israelites, this meant God would be everything they needed for the journey to the Promised Land. He was more than able.
And for us?
When we need a Savior… HE IS
When we need comfort… HE IS
When we need provision… HE IS
When we need protection… HE IS
When we need strength… HE IS
When you need direction and guidance… HE IS
When we need a friend… HE IS
God cannot be contained in a box of our understanding, because He is the Great I AM.
What do you need from your loving Heavenly Father today?
Go ahead and ask Him…
because HE IS.
Today’s Step:
When you feel a specific lack today (peace, strength, wisdom, provision, comfort), pause and pray this simple prayer:
“Lord, You are the Great I AM. You already are what I need right now. Help me trust who You are instead of focusing on what I lack.”
Then take one small step of obedience that reflects trust, speak kindly, wait patiently, give generously, rest intentionally, trusting that HE IS enough.

Thank you, Molinda, for this reminder. It’s easy to fall into the “feeling “ of not being enough. Yes, He Is! That’s a truth I needed today!
