”Then God said, “Let there be light.” The Light changed everything; absolutely everything!
Every night I get up a couple of times and make my way to where I need to go. It is really dark because we live in a place where there are no streetlights or city lights to light up the room. So to keep me from stumbling as I walk around at night, I use the tiny light that is illuminated on our robot vacuum housed in the hall right outside our door. That little light, shines brightly in the darkness and makes all the difference in the world; just like the true Light made all the difference in the world when He came and to this very day!
From the beginning of time, Jesus has been the true Light: ”In the beginning the Word [Jesus] already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.“ John 1:1, 4-5 NLT.
Isaiah tells us why the Light makes a difference for the world when he proclaimed, ”The people who walk in darkness will see a great Light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a Light will shine… For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us… And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.“ Isaiah 9:2, 6.
So, how does this Light make a difference for our times, those in our world? Jesus tells us how we can illuminate His light that is within us to others when He said, ”You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden… a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.“ Matthew 5:14-16. Another translation says of verse 16 to “Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.“
In the dark world we live in, we want to “prompt people to open up to God” by being generous, loving, and opening ourselves up to those around us so they see the true Light of Jesus… ”Then God said, “Let there be light.” The Light changed everything; absolutely everything!

I love this! You are so right….light changes everything. When there is light, fear has to leave. When there is light, things don’t seem so bad. When there is light, you can see the options before you. Thank you, Jesus, for being that LIGHT in my world.
