One of my favorite things is to have a meal with family and friends. For a long time, I had wanted a big round table—one where everyone could visit easily, rather than being limited to just the people sitting near them at a rectangle table. A few years ago, I finally got my table and have put it to good use!
For our Bible Study group, we share a meal together each week before we have our study. We sit around our large round table, relaxed, sharing stories, sharing our desires, hopes, and sometimes our pain. We bond over each other’s experiences; we laugh together, cry together, dream together. We open up our hearts to each other and give a glimpse of ourselves. Sharing a meal with them is an intimate time of connection around this large round table. One of my favorite times of my week.
Have you ever had that experience with your family and/or friends? Does it bring a smile to your face and joy in your heart like it does mine? Now, imagine that same warmth, that same connection—but with Jesus Himself.
Jesus wants this type of opportunity with you too. He said it Himself in Revelation 3:20, where He says, ““Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”
Think about that—Jesus, the Savior of the world, wants to sit with you, listen to your heart, and be part of your everyday life. He isn’t distant or indifferent; He longs for closeness, for real conversation, for deep relationship.
Jesus wants to be invited into the intimate moments of our lives—our highs and lows, our hopes and dreams, our joy and our pain. He wants us to open the doors to each of these aspects of our lives to Him. Invite Him in. He is standing and knocking at the door to your pain. You just need to open up to Him, like a friend sitting around the table.
Is there a door in your heart that you’ve kept shut? A place where pain, fear, or doubt have made you hesitant to let Jesus in? Whatever it is—whether it’s loneliness, anxiety, addiction, or deep-seated wounds—He’s knocking. He’s waiting.
But He won’t force His way in. You have to open the door.
We weren’t meant to carry these burdens alone. Jesus isn’t just knocking to visit; He’s knocking because He wants access to the very places we try to hide. He wants to encounter your struggles, to step into your pain, to bring healing and freedom.
Will you open the door today and let Him in?
