You probably remember the story of the Three Little Pigs. One built his house with straw, another with sticks, and the last with bricks. When the wolf came, he blew down the first two, but no matter how hard he huffed and puffed, he couldn’t touch the brick house.
As kids, it was just a fairytale. But as adults, we understand the deeper truth: what matters most isn’t how the house looks—it’s what it’s built on. A weak foundation can’t stand against the storm.
Jesus used the same image when He said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” (Matthew 7:24–25).
In the ancient world, builders began with something called a cornerstone. It was the first stone set, the one every other stone was aligned with. If the cornerstone was off, the entire building would be crooked. But if it was strong and true, the building could stand firm.
That’s why Paul writes, “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone” (Ephesians 2:20). Jesus isn’t just part of the building—He is the very stone everything depends on.
So here’s the question: What are you building your life on? Is your cornerstone success, approval, or control? Or is it Christ?
Friend, storms will come. Walls will fall. But the good news is this: God is a Master Builder. He knows how to rebuild from rubble. “They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated” (Isaiah 61:4). Your brokenness isn’t wasted—it’s the place where His best work often begins.
The same hands that once shaped wood and stone are shaping your life today. You may only see sawdust or rubble, but He sees the blueprint. Align yourself with the Cornerstone, and you will stand firm no matter the storm.
