I Choose Today

I Choose Today...

I Choose Today to Bloom…

Recently I discussed about being stuck; about the feeling of not being who you want to be, doing what you feel you should be doing, or where you should be serving/working. We can feel like nomads in our occupation, our location, our relationships. So what do we do about it? God’s Word has an answer for that.

Hebrews 11:13 states, “All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.

The author of Hebrews talks about the people of faith understanding they had a role in God’s greater plan, and their true home is in heaven, not on earth.

God has given me the ability to live this perspective being the nomad lifestyle I have lived as a military spouse. There was one block of six (6) years where we moved seven (7) times. The phrase God gave me during this time of constant moving was “bloom where I have planted you.”

I learned that my time in these places was limited, so I needed to get to doing. I would jump in to build relationships God entrusted to me: get involved in my church by attending a small group or women’s Bible study; my neighborhood by introducing myself to my neighbors and seeing how I can meet their needs (showing them Jesus); my community of military families by watching their kids, inviting them into our home, or just being there to listen.

Every time I moved, I ask the Lord to show me where to serve, what He wants me to do, and who He wants me to share His love with. Then I live expectantly knowing God will guide and direct me.

Do I know the lasting impact God has made through my obedience and service while in locations for a short time? No, but I trust He will do immeasurable beyond I can think. I just need to bloom while I have the chance.

In a world where we often feel like nomads, uncertain of our roles and destinations, the wisdom of Hebrews 11:13 reminds us of our true home in heaven and the importance of trusting in God’s greater plan. Just as the people of faith in the Bible embraced their transient existence, we too can find purpose and fulfillment by blooming where we are planted. Through obedience and service, even in fleeting moments, we can make a lasting impact beyond our imagination.

So, if you’re feeling stuck or uncertain about where you belong or how to serve, take heart in knowing that God has a purpose for you right where you are. Embrace your current circumstances and ask God to show you opportunities to serve and make a difference. Whether it’s in your workplace, community, or relationships, commit to blooming where you are planted and trust that God will use your obedience for His glory.
