I Choose Today to Believe God Can Use Me

The name of God is nowhere to be found in the book of Esther. It is as though He was absent. Instead, the narrative of Esther mimics our own experiences today—an era of dominance and oppression where power belongs to the elite. It was a time of opulence, where the who’s-who flaunted their wealth and influence, and where those in authority made reckless decrees without wisdom or justice.

In our world today, we see something similar. Society elevates influencers who seem to have it all—wealth, status, and the admiration of millions. They hold positions of power, appearing wise and all-knowing while often using their influence to serve themselves rather than others. Many of us are left feeling insignificant in comparison, wondering if our lives truly matter.

But then, there’s Esther.

God used a lowly, orphaned girl to upend the most powerful empire of her day. She came from an oppressed people, living in exile, treated with contempt and abuse, considered unworthy and powerless. And yet, when the time came, she was the one God used to change history. She wasn’t royalty by birth, she wasn’t highly educated, and she certainly wasn’t the logical choice to stand before a king and plead for the lives of her people. But God doesn’t choose based on human qualifications—He chooses based on His plan and His power.

This is the same story we see when Mary, an unremarkable girl from an obscure town, was chosen to give birth to the forever King—Jesus Christ. Time and time again, God takes the overlooked and makes them world-changers.

And maybe that’s your story too.

I know what it feels like to be overlooked. There was a time when I felt like no one gave me a second thought, as if my voice didn’t matter and my presence didn’t hold significance. I’ve known what it’s like to feel powerless, to feel like life is happening to me rather than throughme.

But just like Esther, I’ve also seen God take what the world sees as insignificant and use it for His purpose. I am living proof that God can take someone who has been cast aside and raise them up to make a difference. If He can use me, He can use you too.

Maybe you’ve been made to feel like your life is insignificant. Maybe you believe you don’t hold any power or authority. But I have good news for you—God holds all power and authority. And if you are His child, that means you are part of His kingdom and His plan.

Mordecai’s words to Esther still echo through time:

For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14, ESV).

Esther could have stayed silent. She could have believed the lie that she was powerless. But instead, she stepped forward, trusting that God had placed her exactly where she needed to be for His purpose.

Don’t lose heart! God isn’t looking for someone with status or influence—He’s looking for someone willing to trust Him. Esther wasn’t powerful, but she was willing. And that was enough.

Maybe you do have a position of influence. Maybe you hold power in your current life. The question is, how are you wielding it? Are you using it to build your own kingdom, or are you using it for God’s kingdom?

We were all made for such a time as this. The question is—how will you respond?
