I Choose Today to Act Justly

In my last blog, I discussed the requirements for a Product Owner at my job and how I practically apply those requirements with my team. I drew a parallel between the role of a Product Owner and God, with His Word as our ultimate guide. Today, let’s explore what God, our ‘Product Owner,’ requires of us.

Micah 6:8 clearly states God’s expectations:

“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right [do what is fair; to act justly], to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (NLT)

This verse encapsulates the essence of righteous living by highlighting three core requirements: acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. Today, let’s delve into the first requirement: Act Justly.

To act justly means to live with a commitment to fairness, integrity, and justice. It involves making decisions and taking actions that are right and fair, both in personal conduct and in dealing with others. How can we apply this principle to our lives?

Acting justly begins with personal integrity. It’s about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. For instance, there have been times when I wasn’t charged correctly at a store. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, I went back to ensure I was charged fairly. This small act of justice aligns with God’s requirement for us to act justly.

Acting justly also means standing up against injustice in our communities and workplaces. It’s about treating everyone equally, regardless of their status, and ensuring our actions do not harm others. Reflect on your own life: Are there situations where you can speak up or take action to ensure fairness and justice?

God is a just God, a fair God who always does what is best and right. He requires us to do the same. He wants us to represent His character so that others can see His fairness and justice through us. Who doesn’t want to follow a God who is just, fair, and always doing what is right? I know I do. To achieve this, I need to seek the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me in acting justly.
