I Choose Today the Call to Action

Since I began writing this blog, I have learned a lot about how to write a blog (which I had no idea how to do when I felt the Lord’s prompting). One of the ways blogs are enhanced is to add a “call to action” at the end of the post.

A call to action refers to a speech, written content, or action prompting or motivating individuals to take specific action. It is when I encourage the reader, you, into some sort of action to reinforce the topic written about in the blog.

However, modern day bloggers and marketers are not the originators of calls to action. The oldest and best selling book, the Bible, is full of calls to action.

  • Abraham was called to action to leave his home to go where God was leading him to go
  • Abraham went about readying his son for sacrifice
  • Moses’ parents hid their son so he wouldn’t be killed by Pharaoh
  • Noah built an ark when it had never rained before
  • Ester went before the King to save her people
  • David went to battle with a giant in defense of his God and God’s people
  • Jesus called us to action when He instructed us to “go into all the world and preach the gospel”
  • The greatest call to action was when Jesus was called to be the perfect and final sacrifice for our sin and restore, redeem, our relationship with God our extraordinary Father

All of these examples depict individuals who were called to action. (For more examples, read Hebrews 11).

The writer of Hebrews had his own call to action when he states, “…So let us throw off everything that stands in our way. Let us throw off any sin that holds on to us so tightly. And let us keep on running the race marked out for us. Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith…“ Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬a ‭NIRV

For months, I have been putting off my call to action of my own because it is going to require a lot from me. I need to put my faith into action like these examples and step out into faith. I need to look to Jesus for what He has called me to do, and for my strength and endurance to finish my race, my call to action, well.

So what is holding you back from your call to action? Is it distractions, fear, sin? Is it unbelief, doubt?

In reflecting on the powerful examples of action found in scripture, we are reminded that answering our own call to action often requires stepping out in faith. Just as Abraham, Moses, Esther, and many others responded to their divine calls, we too are called to act with courage and faith. Let us draw inspiration from their stories as we embrace our own callings and pursue them with unwavering faith.

Now, I challenge you to consider what call to action is stirring within you. Is it a commitment to serve others, pursue a dream, or deepen your relationship with God? Whatever it may be, don’t let fear or doubt hold you back. Take a step of faith today, trusting that God will equip you for the journey ahead. Embrace your call to action with courage and conviction, knowing that through Christ, you are empowered to fulfill your purpose.
