I Choose Today

I Choose Today...

I Choose Today my identity

Who am I? Who am I that God should or would use me to make a difference?

This is the same question Moses asked when he was talking to God, “… “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” God answered, “I will be with you…”“ Exodus‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬-‭12‬a

You see, God made it a habit of using people who didn’t have any status or qualifications to do something great for His kingdom:

  • Moses: a son of a slave and a murderer
  • Gideon: the least of his people
  • David: a lowly shepherd boy
  • Abraham: the son of an idol maker
  • Rehab: a prostitute
  • Ester: an orphan
  • Peter: fisherman
  • Mary: a teenage girl

I could list more examples, but the point is we don’t need to be qualified or have status for God to use us. We just need to know who He is and who we are to Him. Then simply obey.

“We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” 2 Cor 3:4-5.

In my life where I was treated like and told that I was nothing, I was striving and trying to get qualified through what I did and getting knowledge.

But each time I did that, I would fall short; I was miserable; I felt lost. I was trying to be what the world told me I should be instead of knowing who I was in the Lord. I was trying to outrun the negative speech ingrained in me from childhood, instead of living in who I am in Christ. I was trying to qualify myself, instead of getting my qualifications from God.

This last year, I learned to lean into my identity in Christ and it has set me free! It has freed me to get to know the Lord on a deeper level as I rely on Him for my qualifications. It has given me freedom to “GO” where He is sending me. It has freed me up to be used for His kingdom purposes just like the ones listed above.

For He has made a covenant with me just like He did David in 2 Samuel‬ ‭23‬:‭5‬, “Is it not my family God has chosen? Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me. His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail. He will ensure my safety and success.“

What is your identity? And where does it come from? What freedom are you looking for today? I would love to hear from you on your thoughts about your identity in Christ. Please leave a comment.

  1. What a wonderful reminder of who we are in Christ! The blessing is in realizing that God loves us so much and has given us so many promises – promises that we KNOW He will keep because of who He is! “I will be with you… I will never leave you… I will give you the strength to go through this…” and it goes on and on. He is so Faithful!
