I Choose Today...

To Run

I choose today to run… I love that the Word of God is alive! David illustrated this so beautifully in his prayer to God when he says, ”As those out to get me come closer and closer, they go farther and farther from the truth you reveal; But you’re the closest of all to me, God, and all your judgments true. I’ve known all along from the evidence of your words that you meant them to last forever.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭149-‭152‬ ‭MSG (I chose the MGS version for vs 149). They’re so much to unpack here. In verse 149, David talks about King Saul coming after him. Saul is being consumed by his own pride and jealousy that it is taking him further and further away from God and His will. That is what happens when sin is left untouched, unresolved, unrepented; it festers, becomes all-consuming, and draws us further and further from God and His will for our lives! That is what happened to Saul, God’s favor left him and he was driven by his all-consuming sin. That was the beginning of the end for Saul. We need to heed the warning the angel of the Lord gave to Lot

To Wait Expectantly…

Habakkuk 2:1 demonstrates waiting expectantly for God to answer him when he states, “I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how He will answer my complaint.”  ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬ I love what Habakkuk did here. He stated his complaint, his doubts, his fears to God. Habakkuk was honest with God in how he felt about what was happening around him. But he didn’t just tell Him what was on his heart and walk away, nor did he think that God wasn’t listening, didn’t care, or wouldn’t respond/act on his complaint. No, Habakkuk did something remarkable; he set himself in a position to hear from God. He climb up to his watchtower. He set himself above the fray, above the noise and chaos, above any distractions. There he stood watching, waiting expectantly for God to answer. Even though Habakkuk was complaining to God about his circumstances, he was waiting expectantly for God’s response. Habakkuk’s example is a reminder for me to live and wait expectantly. Expect God to listen. Expect God to care. Expect God to answer. To position myself – above the fray, the

To use my tools

In my minds eye, everyone has a life tool chest. Before I became a Christian, it was filled with survival tools of which I used to survive. But when I became a believer, God started replacing those survival tools with tools equipping me to thrive. These tools were derived from the Word of God, through trials, perseverance, experience. That is why James says, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬. With each trial is an opportunity to build life’s tool chest; tools we can use to be successful in all we do and go through. I think of Joesph who went through trial after trial, but God used the tools he accumulated during those trials to make Joesph the leader God designed him to be. I believe God is doing that in my life. I believe He has replaced those survival tools I once used just to get by, and

To be Brutally Honest

The writer of Hebrews explained brutal honesty perfectly when he said, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before His eyes, and He is the one to whom we are accountable.” Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬. When we are brutally honest with ourselves we are stripped bare: naked and exposed. It is uncomfortable, embarrassing, traumatizing, shameful. But isn’t that what God had in mind when He created mankind? Before the fall, Adam and Eve were naked and unashamed as they stood before God. But when they chose to disobey God, the first thing they experienced was shame, “At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.” Genesis 3:7. When God came looking for them, they didn’t stand before God, they hid from God. They were trying to hide their sin and shame by sowing fig leaves together, which was woefully insufficient. They couldn’t do anything in their own power to cover their sin, so they tried to hide (it). But God… He did something amazing; He lovingly brought them out of hiding, and shed blood to make a covering for their

to be Restored

I am encouraged by a friend today. When she was feeling emotionally and spiritually weak, she choose to fight against that by praying God’s Word over her situations. That is what we are supposed to do. That is what Jesus did. Jesus spoke the truth of God’s Word when met with His own physical weakness in the wilderness. Satan tried to use His weakness to get Him to sin. That is what the devil does, uses our weaknesses (emotional, physical, or spiritual) to get us to sin. My friend did what Jesus did. She spoke the Word of Truth over her problems, over being overwhelmed, over her struggles. What happened after Jesus spoke the Word against the devil? Satan left Him, then angels came to comfort and fed Him. God is our source of comfort, just like David expresses in the 23rd Psalms, “He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.” He gives strength; restores our souls. “Thank You, Lord, for renewing our strength and restoring our souls. Thank You for the comfort as we walk through stresses of this
