I Choose Today...

I choose today to be invigorated…

I choose today to be invigorated… I love words…Maybe that one of the reasons I love God’s word so much! David uses words to express his awe and wonder over God’s Word. In Psalms 119: 175, David ends this very lengthy heartfelt prayer and acclamations about God’s Word with these words, “Invigorate my life so that I can praise you even more, and may your truth be my strength!” ‭(TPT‬‬) I love this version of David’s words: “Invigorate my life.” To invigorate means to strengthen and give energy to. Can you recall a time when you have been invigorated? For me it is when I spend time at the beach, hear an inspiring sermon or song. When I have these experiences, I am ready to take on the world, to do battle, to do what needs to be done. What David is saying here is being invigorated by God’s degrees/instructions/statutes/principals that empowers him to praise God, and gives him the strength and energy to do battle, face his enemy, do what God is calling him to do. “Your truth be my strength.”  In another version it says that God’s decrees brings iron to his soul. To me iron demonstrates fortification and

To Stay Focused

I choose today to stay focused “Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭165‬ ‭NLT‬‬ David knew the importance of being strong and not growing weary. David understood that if he stumbled, because he was being pursued, he would be caught by the enemy. He knew his strength came from God’s Word. His peace also came from keeping his focus on God and His goodness and deliverance. It is good to know who our enemy is; Satan and not others. Satan is the great deceiver. He takes the  20% of which is not good and makes that our focus instead of the 80% of what is good. He makes it seem like the bad is all there is; that there is no way out of it or getting beyond it other than to quit (give up, walk away) from relationships, neighbors, coworkers, family. He makes it seem like quitting/walking away is our only option for peace. But that is a big fat lie! God Word says (through David, Joshua, Isaiah, Jesus) that when we meditate on God’s Word, we will find new strength, prosper in all we do, not stumble but stand, not grow

I Choose Today to Shine…

I choose today to shine… “Salvation is far from the wicked because they do not study your statutes.” Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭155‬ ‭CSB‬‬ This beings to mind my neighbors. They are unbelievers. One especially is outwardly contradictory when I bring up my faith in conversation or offer my prayer support (along with my other support). It seems like they are so far away from accepting Jesus as their savior. But nothing is impossible for God. One Sunday night, I invited over two of my neighbors for a girl’s night. We had apps and great conversation. But before we ate, I prayed. Both of them expected it too. And for the first time, they BOTH said “Amen;” even the one who is “so far away.” I see God working through me even as unlikely the situation is. I keep showing up and showing God to those in my realm of influence. At the end when we were saying goodbye, one of the ladies stayed behind to talk to me about what she is going through. God is moving! We just need to keep showing up and allowing our light to shine before man, as it says in 2 Cor 4:6, “For God, who

I Choose Today to Fall Deeper

I like The Passion Translation (TPT) for Philippians 3:8, which reads, “To truly know Him meant letting go of everything from my past and throwing all my boasting on the garbage heap. It’s all like a pile of manure to me now, so that I may be enriched in the reality of knowing Jesus Christ and embrace Him as Lord in all of His greatness.” I like the first part of this verse where Paul says, “To truly know Him [Jesus] meant letting go of everything from my past…” If I truly want to get to know Jesus, I need to let go of any hold my past has on me. I don’t want to be fueled by my past; that will only lead me down a road of destruction. Instead, I want to be propelled by the future and the life God has for me through Christ Jesus. To do that, I need to know Jesus not only as my personal Savior but also as my friend, mentor, and confidant by spending time in the Word (which is Jesus: John 1:1). At the beginning of this year, our church was challenged to pray and asked to fall deeper and

To Be Harmonious…

I choose today to be harmonious… “After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭ This scripture illustrates to me that we all (believers/the church) make up the body of Christ. We all have a role to perform, a job to do, and gifts we each possess in order to complete this role/job. It is not a contest, nor is it a competition. A hand doesn’t perform the same task as an ear, so how can it compare? But the ear can hear and the brain can send messages to the hand to react to what is heard. The body works harmoniously, just as God designed it, just like the body of Christ. I always wanted to be able to sing; asked God why I couldn’t have that gift; pouting about what I don’t have (immature). But God has shown me He has given certain people that gift to minister to the body, and that includes me! It is such a blessing, like a balm to my soul, when I hear someone using their gift
