When I was working in an office setting, a group of us were discussing what superpower we would choose if we could have any ability. The usual answers came up—superhuman strength, the ability to fly, invisibility, mind control. When it was my turn, I said I would want the superpower of wisdom. Everyone laughed, but I was completely serious. At that time in my life, I felt lost in decision-making, and I knew that if I had wisdom—true wisdom that comes from the Spirit of God—I could navigate whatever life threw my way.
I wasn’t the first person to think that wisdom was the best gift to receive. In the Bible, God told King Solomon that he could ask for anything, and Solomon—just 20 years old at the time—asked for wisdom to lead God’s people (1 Kings 3:9). Can you imagine being that young, given the opportunity to request anything, and choosing wisdom? He may have faced the same kind of laughter I did, but Solomon understood something profound: he could not lead well unless the Spirit of God empowered him with divine wisdom.
As we continue our exploration of the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit outlined in Isaiah 11:2, we see that wisdom from God is something we need to navigate the ups and downs of this world. The Spirit of Wisdom described in Isaiah 11:2 is not just about having knowledge or being clever. It’s wisdom that comes from God, wisdom that helps us think rightly, make good decisions, and live in alignment with His will.
Isaiah 11:2 says that the Spirit of the Lord would rest on the Messiah, and one of the attributes He would carry is the Spirit of Wisdom. Jesus demonstrated wisdom in His teachings and choices, and we are called to reflect that same wisdom in our own lives. His wisdom came from His deep connection with the Father, showing us how we, too, can seek and apply God’s wisdom.
The Spirit of Wisdom helps us see things through God’s perspective instead of the world’s. It gives us discernment to know the difference between truth and deception, good and bad. It teaches us how to make decisions that are grounded in God’s Word. And that’s just the beginning.
James reminds us that if we lack wisdom, all we have to do is ask—and God will give it generously.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (James 1:5, NLT)
So what is holding you back from walking in the Spirit of Wisdom?
Take a moment today to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with wisdom. Ask Him to guide your decisions, help you understand His Word, and direct your steps.
Have you ever experienced a moment when God gave you wisdom beyond your own understanding? I’d love to hear about it. Share in the comments or take time to reflect on how His wisdom has shaped your journey.

1 thought on “I Choose Today to Walk in the Wisdom of the Holy Spirit”
God has been teaching me how to listen to His Spirit to give me wisdom. All my life, I relied on other people to help with decisions because that was just easier than trying to listen to God’s leading… But, I have been learning that I shouldn’t lean on anyone but Him. Sure, I can ask others for counsel and weigh what they say, but ultimately I have to listen to the Holy Spirit, be open to hear His voice and then trust that the wisdom that He is giving is truth.
