What if I told you that the same Spirit who hovered over the waters at creation, the same Spirit who empowered Jesus, and the same Spirit who moved through the early church is the very Spirit who dwells in you today? It’s an incredible truth, yet it’s exactly what God has given us through Christ.
As we have been learning and studying about the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 11:2, we see them fully manifested in life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Just as Jesus, the “shoot from the stump of Jesse” (vs. 1), bore fruit through the power of the Holy Spirit, we too have the capacity to flourish as He produces fruit in us by that same Spirit.
Let us briefly recap the Seven Attributes of the Holy Spirit:
1. The Spirit of the Lord – Jesus was filled with the Spirit, led by the Spirit, and did nothing apart from the Father’s will. We are now called to live Spirit-led lives, walking in His presence and power.
2. The Spirit of Wisdom – Jesus taught and lived with divine wisdom, showing us how to make decisions aligned with God’s will. The Spirit of Wisdom is available to guide our daily choices.
3. The Spirit of Understanding – Jesus saw beyond surface-level issues and knew the hearts of people. The Holy Spirit gives us deeper understanding of God’s Word, His ways, and even insight into the people around us.
4. The Spirit of Counsel – Jesus sought the Father’s guidance before every major decision and offered godly counsel to others. The Spirit of Counsel helps us discern God’s direction in our own lives and guide others in truth.
5. The Spirit of Might – Jesus walked in supernatural power, overcoming temptation, performing miracles, and enduring the cross. That same power is given to us for endurance, boldness, and victory in spiritual battles.
6. The Spirit of Knowledge – Jesus didn’t just know about God—He knew Him intimately. The Spirit invites us into that same deep, experiential relationship, transforming our faith from information to transformation.
7. The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord – Jesus lived in perfect reverence for the Father, showing us that holy awe leads to obedience and deep intimacy with God.
Even though Jesus was fully God and fully man, He chose to set aside His divine privileges and live in full dependence on the Holy Spirit to do the will of the Father. In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus expressively says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Jesus makes it clear that His power came from the Spirit to accomplish the will of the Father. And since we are grafted into Him, that same Spirit now empowers us to live out the purpose God has for each of us!
We are not alone. “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you” (Romans 8:11). Therefore, we have access to all these attributes. The Holy Spirit teaches, strengthens, and leads us just as He did for Jesus. Our lives should reflect this reality. If we are walking in the Spirit, it should change how we think, act, and live out our faith.
This is a daily choice. Walking in the Spirit’s power isn’t just a one-time event—it’s an ongoing relationship, a moment-by-moment reliance on Him.
This concludes our journey through the seven-fold Spirit of God in Isaiah 11:2, but the journey of walking in the Spirit never ends. My prayer is that this series has deepened your understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and how He empowers you daily. Now, it’s your turn to step forward—walking in wisdom, strength, counsel, and might, fully surrendered to the Spirit’s leading.
Which of these attributes do you feel God is calling you to grow in right now? Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you daily in wisdom, strength, and understanding. Lean into His counsel, ask Him to reveal more of God’s heart to you, and take a step today to walk in His power. You were never meant to do this alone—the Spirit who empowered Jesus now dwells in you!
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)
