I Choose Today to Speak Life

Words carry weight. They shape atmospheres, build hearts, and plant seeds that grow long after the conversation ends. And if we’re honest, most of us know what it feels like to long for a life-giving word… and not hear one.

When I was a kid, I can remember wanting someone to notice me. Just one kind word. One sentence of encouragement. One moment of being seen. I can still feel that ache, that yearning for someone to speak life into me. And when it didn’t come, it made me feel invisible. Alone. Like my voice or my presence didn’t matter.

And maybe you’ve had a season like that too, where affirmation was scarce, and silence spoke louder than kindness.

When I became a believer, one of the biggest adjustments was learning how to receive encouragement. To let myself be seen. It still catches me off guard sometimes, because it touches the part of me that remembers what it felt like to go without it.

But maybe that’s why this matters so much to me now. Because I don’t ever want my words to wound or disappear into silence. I want my words to flow from the throne of grace,  life-giving, steady, kind, and anchored in the heart of Jesus.

We never fully know who is carrying that same childhood ache.

We never know who longs to be seen.

We never know whose soul is waiting for one simple sentence of hope.

And God may want to speak that word through you.

Proverbs 18:21 tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Jesus said that what comes out of our mouths is the overflow of our hearts. Our words reveal what is happening inside us, and they shape what’s happening around us.

People rarely remember everything you say, but they never forget how your words made them feel. A moment of encouragement… a word of affirmation… a sentence that says, “I see you, and you matter,” can be the exact thing that keeps someone going.

Life-giving words aren’t about pretending everything is fine or ignoring the hard things. They are about choosing words aligned with the Kingdom rather than with chaos. Words that build, bless, and breathe hope. Words that remind someone of who they are and who God is.

Everything we say is planting something. Seeds of fear or seeds of faith. Seeds of frustration or seeds of peace. Seeds of discouragement or seeds of courage.

So today, ask yourself: What am I sowing with my words?

Your voice matters. And God wants to use it.

Today’s Step:

Speak one life-giving word to someone before the day ends. One encouragement. One affirmation. One sentence of hope.

And keep choosing today to be transformed, one word, one response, one day at a time.
