Last week, I wrote about how the Spirit of God brings order from chaos — how He doesn’t leave us in the dark, but hovers close, bringing light and life where there was once confusion.
But God doesn’t stop at order.
He always takes it further — He makes it beautiful.
When I look back at my life, I can see moments that felt like pure chaos—messy, unformed, out of control. But every single time, God was doing what He’s always done: shaping something beautiful from what I could only see as broken.
Genesis 1 tells us that once God brought order, He began filling creation with beauty — color, texture, variety, light. Everything He made was called good.
In the book, Terra Nova, Julian Adams explains that the Hebrew word ṭôv—translated as “good”—doesn’t just mean morally right; it carries the sense of beauty, delight, and excellence. When God said creation was good, He was admiring its beauty. He was taking pleasure in what He made.
That insight changed how I see Him. Because God’s goodness has never been only about function — it’s about flourishing.
Genesis 2:9 says the trees in the garden were “pleasant to the sight and good for food.” God could have made them useful and plain, but He didn’t. He made them beautiful. That’s who He is. He doesn’t stop at order; He goes all the way to beauty.
And beauty is a thread that runs throughout the story of Scripture.
When the Spirit first filled Bezalel in Exodus 31, it wasn’t to preach or fight a battle, but to create beauty for God’s dwelling. The first person ever filled with the Spirit was an artist! Every design of the Tabernacle reflected God’s heart for beauty — the gold, the embroidery, the carved details. It all mattered to Him.
Through Jesus, that same Spirit now lives in us. We’ve become the dwelling place of God — living reflections of His artistry. Ephesians 2:10 calls us His handiwork, His poiēma — His poem, His masterpiece.
You don’t have to be a painter or musician to be creative. The Spirit’s creativity shows up in how we love, serve, build, and restore. It’s in the way we bring peace to a room, hope to a conversation, or grace to a hard place.
The Spirit doesn’t just empower us to speak truth — He empowers us to create beauty.
And when we yield what’s in our hands to Him, He builds something through us that becomes a dwelling place for His presence — whether that’s a home, a friendship, or a moment of quiet rest.
Friend, God’s story of transformation is still unfolding. The same Spirit who brought order from chaos is still making things beautiful — in you, through you, and all around you.
