In the vastness of the universe, there is an order and purpose that holds everything together—a design that keeps planets in orbit and stars in place. Imagine if everything in existence revolved around one fixed point, a single source of strength and purpose. When God is at the center of our lives, He becomes that fixed point, the foundation around which everything else finds its balance and meaning. He is not just a part of our lives; He is the heart of it all, directing our steps, shaping our priorities, and bringing peace to the chaos. Living with God at the center means aligning our lives around His wisdom, love, and guidance, allowing Him to be the steady axis that keeps everything else in its proper place.
There is a saying in the church community, “We live in a fallen world.” This means we live in a world that is overcome with doing evil, doing wrong, or worse yet, doing right in one’s own eyes.
I recently heard someone say, the universe was meant to have one center in which the whole universe orbits around. This one center keeps everything aligned and orderly. The problem since (and the reason) sin entered the world is everyone wants to be at the center of their own universe, their own lives, to which everyone else is expected to orbit around. The problem with this is that now we have billions of different orbits colliding and that turns to chaos.
I have good news! The One who made the universe is still in control. He hasn’t lost His grip on the axis. Moses wrote, in Psalms 90:3, “Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, You are God.”
Did you catch that? Moses was saying God is still God! The same God who made the universe still controls the universe! He said “are” not “was.” Present tense, not past tense! Moses wrote this when he and the Israelites were in the wilderness! Talk about a people who wanted their own way: chaos!
But Moses knew the mountain maker. He knew God could move the mountains and obstacles in their way. He knew who was in control. He kept his eyes on the one who was leading cloud by day and fire by night.
He is still holding things together, as Paul tells us in Colossians 1:16-17 – “For in Him all things were created… and in Him all things hold together.”
I need to keep my focus on the true orbit; the God who is God! Not the little disruptive mini orbits, but the One true orbit that spoke the rest into existence. When chaos erupts around us, let us not fret or get anxious because our God is still God.
Take a moment today to pause and ask yourself: is God truly at the center of my life? Reflect on areas where you might be placing yourself at the center instead, and invite Him to realign your heart and priorities. Trust that the One who holds the universe together can hold you steady, too. Let this be your prayer today: “Lord, be the center of my life, my thoughts, and my actions. Help me to live in harmony with Your purpose and find peace in Your presence. Keep my focus on You and not the chaos that is happening around me. You are God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
