Does it sometimes feel like the hardest thing to do is start a project; a new path of a career or schooling; a step toward a dream, a goal, or a new phase of your life? The first step seems almost insurmountable because of the enormity of the tasks needed to finish or reach the goals you have set? Let me tell you a secret, God loves small beginnings.
Zachariah 4:10 describes how God feels about stepping out in faith toward the adventure/calling for His people, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” The Lord rejoices when He sees we are at the starting line of His plan being worked through His children. Even when those beginnings are small like setting a plumb line or setting up a website.
My husband and I recently completed the process of finishing our very large basement area. It was my job to take lead in installing our flooring. I had to resource the floor which took time to get the best quality for the best price. That took time, but the work to actually install the floor had not begun. Once the floor arrived, a friend of ours came over and he and I planned out where to start. It was when we struck the first plumb line on the cement, that it felt like the work was actually going to happen! I was filled with anticipation and excitement to get started; to see the finished product.
Was the work easy after that first plumb line was struck? No! The work was hard, full of obstacles (like walls that were not straight, weird angles, door jams), doubts, exhaustion, sore muscles/knees, accounting for imperfections in the craftsmanship of the home. Through it all, we kept going, kept working, kept showing up. And do you know what? Once we finished the floors and the basement, it was all worth it!
God rejoices when we step out in faith and start. Starting is when the obstacles are great, the path is unknown, the doubts are many. But that is where God shows us how to navigate the obstacles and turns them into opportunities. Where God delights in guiding us down the right path. Where God shows up and shows off even when we doubt.
God promises, “The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Ps. 32:8
“Lord, we know You have a perfect plan for us and we are stepping out in faith knowing You will advise us and watch over us while setting us on the path You have for us. Help us hear Your voice. We want to glorify You in all we say and do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Embrace your new beginning today. Whether it’s a small step or a major leap, trust in God’s plan for your life. Take a moment to reflect on a step you’ve been hesitant to take, and ask God for guidance. Let’s start this journey together, walking in faith and obedience to His call.
