This reflection comes from Episode 50 of the I Choose Today Podcast, and it feels like a meaningful place to pause and consider not just who we are in Christ, but how that identity shapes the way we live.
From the very beginning, God created humanity in His image. Scripture tells us in Genesis that we were formed to reflect something of His character into the world. His goodness. His love. His nature. And when He looked at what He had made, He called it very good.
That means before we ever accomplished anything, before we built a reputation, before anyone formed an opinion about us, God had already spoken value and dignity over our lives.
We were created as image-bearers.
But when sin entered the world, something shifted. Not in God, but in us. Instead of reflecting Him outward, humanity began turning inward. Doubt crept in. We questioned His goodness, His intentions, His heart. And the reflection became distorted.
Not erased.
But clouded.
And yet, God did not abandon His image-bearers.
Through Jesus, He began restoring what had been distorted. Scripture tells us that Jesus is the image of the invisible God. He shows us what God is like, His love, His mercy, His humility, His truth. And through the work of the Holy Spirit, that same image is being restored in us.
Little by little, the mirror is being cleaned.
What was once clouded begins to clear. What was once distorted begins to align. And as that happens, something beautiful begins to take place.
We begin to reflect Him.
But this reflection is not just personal. It is also representational.
Because when we belong to God, we carry His name.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” That word “hallowed” means holy, set apart, sacred. And while we often think of honoring God’s name in terms of what we say, Scripture shows us something deeper.
We honor His name in the way we live.
The way we speak.
The way we respond.
The way we treat people.
All of it reflects something about the God we belong to.
Scripture even describes us as ambassadors for Christ. Ambassadors do not represent themselves, they represent the one who sent them. They carry the heart, the values, and the message of another kingdom.
That is what is true for us.
When we step into our everyday lives, we are not just showing up as individuals. We are carrying the name of the One we belong to.
Not perfectly.
But genuinely.
And this is how others begin to see Him.
Not just through words, but through lived expression.
In responses that look different from what people expect.
In moments where grace shows up instead of reaction.
In a posture that reflects Jesus more than the culture around us.
These moments may seem small, but they are not small in the kingdom of God.
Because every time the character of Jesus becomes visible in our lives, His name is being honored.
This is not something we strive to do in our own strength.
It flows from identity.
We do not represent God to earn His love.
We represent Him because we belong to Him.
Like children who naturally begin to reflect the heart and character of their parents, we begin to reflect our Heavenly Father as we walk closely with Him. As we spend time with Him. As we listen. As we follow His lead.
Transformation comes first.
Reflection follows.
And representation grows naturally from there.
The Holy Spirit is faithful to continue the work, shaping us, guiding us, gently correcting us, and aligning our hearts with His.
And over time, His character becomes clearer in the way we live.
So maybe today the question is not, “What do I need to do?”
Maybe the question is, “What does it look like to carry His name well in this moment?”
Because when you begin to see your life through that lens, even the most ordinary moments take on deeper meaning.
You were created in His image.
You were invited to reflect His character.
And you carry His name into the world.
So today…
choose to represent Him well.
