I Choose Today...

I Choose Today to Breathe His Praise

Recently, during a worship service at church, we sang a song that truly spoke to my heart: “Great Are You Lord” by All Sons and Daughters. (I’ve added the link at the end so you can listen if you’d like.) The chorus resonates deeply:

“It’s Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise, pour out our praise… to You only.”

This beautiful truth led me to reflect on the very moment God gave us breath—the moment He brought life into existence.

“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”  —Genesis 2:7 (NLT)

This verse reveals three profound truths about our Creator:

1. We Are Created With Intentionality and Purpose

God didn’t just make Adam—He formed him. Every detail was intentional, deliberate, and purposeful. Psalm 139:13 reminds us, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Have you ever watched someone knit? Each stitch is part of a larger plan, crafted with care. That’s how God made you—yes, you! He chose every detail about you with love and intention. Doesn’t that make you feel cherished? Valued? Seen? It fills my heart with gratitude and awe to know that I am not a mistake but the work of His hands. And that alone is reason to pour out our praise!

2. He Breathes Life Into Us—Literally and Spiritually

Adam wasn’t alive until God breathed the “breath of life” into his nostrils. Think about that: the God of the universe, the Creator of all, personally breathed life into Adam. And He breathes life into us, too.

His breath gives us physical life, but He also breathes life into us through His Word. “All Scripture is God-breathed…” (2 Timothy 3:16). His Word is His very essence, His heart, and His truth poured out for us. How precious it is to hold His breath in our hands and let it fill our hearts. When we spend time in Scripture, we receive His life-giving breath again and again. Another reason to use the breath in our lungs to praise Him!

3. Without Him — We Would Not Be

It’s through God alone that we are alive—body, soul, and spirit. Without Him, there is no life, no purpose, no identity. His plan, His care, and His breath are the very essence of who we are. Knowing this humbles me and compels me to pour out my gratitude.

So today, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on this truth: the breath in your lungs is a gift from God. Every inhale and exhale is an opportunity to praise Him. Let your words, your actions, and your heart pour out praise to Him only. Why? Because truly, “great is the Lord!”

Take time today to reflect on the intentionality of your Creator. Spend a few moments in silence, simply breathing in gratitude and exhaling praise. Open His Word and let His God-breathed Scripture fill your soul with life. Then, use the breath He’s given you to tell someone else about His greatness—whether through a conversation, a note of encouragement, or even by sharing this post. Let your life be a song of praise today.
