I Choose Today...

I Choose Today to be Spiritually Invigorated

Have you ever felt the need for God to refresh your soul? Psalm 119 offers a glimpse into David’s heartfelt plea for spiritual renewal, and it speaks to the deep need we all have for God’s personal touch in our lives.

When I read these verses in the MSG version, I felt the Holy Spirit touch something deep within me, “Let my cry come right into Your presence, God; provide me with the insight that comes only from Your Word. Give my request Your personal attention, rescue me on the terms of Your promise. Let praise cascade off my lips; after all, You’ve taught me the truth about life! And let Your promises ring from my tongue; every order You’ve given is right. Put Your hand out and steady me since I’ve chosen to live by Your counsel. I’m homesick, God, for Your salvation; I love it when You show Yourself! Invigorate my soul so I can praise You well, use Your decrees to put iron in my soul. And should I wander off like a lost sheep—seek me! I’ll recognize the sound of Your voice.” Psalms 119:169-176

I feel David’s words deep in my soul! He is asking God to take a personal interest in his requests; a personal interest in him. God doesn’t treat us as lower-level people; being too busy with more important things to take time with us lowly people. He gives us His personal, undivided attention, love, mercy, time, goodness. We are precious to Him and He delights in us! Doesn’t that fact alone just make your heart sing?

David then praises God for what He has taught Him in scripture, giving him the words to say and practical wisdom to live by. We don’t need to grapple for words when the time arises, because by studying scripture, God’s very words, the words of wisdom will be implanted in our hearts and at the forefront of our minds. And if we do grapple, asking the Holy Spirit for the right words is just a breath away (remember there is wisdom in the pause). Just being a breath away is reason for praise, don’t you think?

Moreover, David goes further by asking God to show up and invigorate his soul! Do you need your soul invigorated today? David is requesting a deep, inner refreshment that empowers him to live a life aligned with God’s will, even when facing challenges or when his own strength feels insufficient. “Lord, invigorate my soul!”

Take a moment today to ask God to invigorate your soul. Reflect on the areas of your life where you need His personal touch and let His Word guide you. Share in the comments how God has refreshed your spirit recently, and let’s encourage one another to live fully in His presence.

  1. God’s Word is my strength, my guide. When I am struggling and I go to the Word, God is always faithful to give me something to hold onto. He speaks to me and gives hope and direction. He is so faithful!

  2. “I’m homesick got your salvation”. What a beautiful word picture from scripture. And recognizing the sound of His voice…I live that. I can remember the longing for God in my college years. Out of my comfort zone and seeking my safe place in Jesus. This encourages me to seek that safe place again.❤️
