I Choose Today...

I Choose Today to Be Encapsulated by His Love

Have you ever walked into a house where bread is baking? The aroma fills every corner, and before long, you find yourself drawn to the kitchen, hungry for a taste. There’s something irresistible about the smell of fresh bread—it’s comforting, inviting, and it stirs up an appetite you didn’t even know you had.

Now, imagine this: when the loaf comes out of the oven, its aroma intensifies. But it’s when the bread is broken that the true depth of its aroma is released, filling the air and drawing everyone in. It’s as if the bread is saying, This is who I truly am. Taste and see.

That, my friend, is a picture of Jesus.

In John 6:35, Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” He offers us spiritual sustenance, a satisfaction that only He can give. When He walked this earth, His life was a sweet aroma, inviting everyone into a deeper relationship with God.

But it wasn’t until His body—like bread—was broken for us that we could fully experience the depth of His love. At the Last Supper, Jesus broke bread with His disciples and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19, NLT). His sacrifice on the cross was the ultimate act of love, pouring out God’s grace for all of humanity. It was in His brokenness that His love was made complete.

And just like the aroma of fresh bread fills a house, His love now fills the hearts of those who believe in Him. The Apostle Paul writes, “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God” (2 Corinthians 2:15, NLT). We carry the aroma of Christ wherever we go, spreading His love to a world hungry for hope.

Have you ever noticed that the times you feel most broken are often when others see Christ in you most clearly? It’s in our brokenness that His love can truly shine through. When we surrender our lives to Him, He uses our trials, our hurts, and even our mistakes to draw others to Himself. Just as the broken loaf releases its aroma, our broken lives can release His love to those around us.

So, how can we, as followers of Christ, spread the aroma of His love? It starts with surrender. Just as Jesus gave Himself fully for us, we are called to give ourselves fully to Him. This is a daily choice—a willingness to lay down our own plans, struggles, and weaknesses and trust that His strength will shine through. After all, it’s in our weakness that His strength is made perfect (2 Corinthians 12:9).

From there, it’s about living as His witnesses. Our lives should reflect His love, not in grand, unattainable ways, but in the small, everyday moments that show His kindness and grace. When we choose to be patient, forgiving, or compassionate, even when it’s hard, we’re showing the world a glimpse of Christ. These small acts of love can have a bigger impact than we realize.

And finally, we’re invited to share this love—just as bread is meant to be shared. The love of Christ isn’t something to keep to ourselves. Look for opportunities to share your story, your testimony of how He has worked in your life. Invite others to experience the Bread of Life for themselves. You never know whose heart might be drawn in by the aroma of His love working through you.

Take a moment today to reflect on what it means to be filled with the Bread of Life. Ask yourself:

• Am I allowing Jesus’ love to permeate every part of my life?

• How can I spread the aroma of His love to those around me, especially in my brokenness?

Spend time in prayer, surrendering your hurts and struggles to Him. Ask Him to use them for His glory, just as He did through His own sacrifice. Then, go out and be the aroma of Christ in a world hungry for His love.
