I Choose Today to Keep Going When It Feels Slow

Sometimes perseverance isn’t hard because life is overwhelming…

Sometimes it’s hard because nothing seems to be happening.

Slow growth.
Slow answers.
Slow change.

And slow can be discouraging.

Because we like progress.

We like movement.
We like seeing results.

But God often works differently.

He works slowly.

And slow does not mean stagnant.

It does not mean God isn’t working.

In fact, slow often means God is building something deeper.

I think about seeds.

When you plant a seed, you don’t immediately see growth.

There’s a season where everything is happening beneath the surface.

Roots are forming.
Strength is developing.

But you can’t see it yet.

And that’s what perseverance often looks like.

Continuing to trust… even when you don’t see.

Continuing to walk… even when nothing seems to be changing.

I once heard about a type of bamboo that grows in a fascinating way.

For years, nothing appears above the surface.

You water it.
You care for it.
You nurture it.

And still… nothing.

It would be easy to assume nothing is happening.

But during that time, something is happening.

Roots are growing deep.
A foundation is being formed.

And then, after years of unseen growth, it suddenly shoots up rapidly.

What looks like sudden growth… was actually years in the making.

And I think that’s how God often works in us.

He builds beneath the surface.

He strengthens our faith.
He deepens our roots.
He prepares us for what’s ahead.

Even when we don’t see it.

We live in a culture that values speed.

Quick results.
Quick answers.
Quick transformation.

But God is not in a hurry.

Because He’s not just interested in where you’re going…

He’s interested in who you’re becoming.

When we look at Scripture, we see this pattern again and again.

Joseph didn’t step into leadership overnight.
David wasn’t crowned king immediately.
Even Jesus lived in quiet obscurity before His public ministry.

Slow growth is not unusual.

It’s often how God works.

Because deep roots don’t grow overnight.

And neither does spiritual maturity.

There have been seasons in my life where growth felt slow.

Where I wondered if anything was really happening.

But looking back… I can see it.

I can see how God was working beneath the surface.

Shaping my heart.
Strengthening my faith.
Building something deeper.

Even with the podcast and blog…

Growth hasn’t always been fast.

There have been moments where I’ve wondered if what I was doing was making a difference.

But God reminded me…

He’s not always working in big, visible ways.

Sometimes He’s working quietly… one heart at a time.

And that kind of growth may feel slow…

But it’s meaningful.

Because God is building something deeper than numbers.

He’s building transformation.

So if you’re in a slow season right now…

Don’t give up.

Don’t assume nothing is happening.

God is working… even beneath the surface.

And perseverance means continuing to trust Him…

One step at a time.

Today’s Step

If you’re in a slow season, take a moment to thank God for the unseen work.

Then ask Him to help you trust the process.

And keep going… one step at a time.
