I Choose Today to Go Through This Season Well

“Lord, help me go through this season well…”

I recently heard the story of a man who was given only a short time to live after a cancer diagnosis. Instead of asking God for healing, his prayer was, “Lord, help me to die well.” After his passing, his wife—now a widow—began to pray, “Lord, help me to grieve well.”

Their words have stayed with me.

We all walk through seasons we never planned for—loss, pain, transition, disappointment. Seasons where there’s no playbook and no clear direction. We don’t know how to process, much less how to do them well.

But I believe this couple discovered the secret: they turned to God.

God isn’t surprised by the storms that hit our lives. He’s not scrambling to come up with a plan. Through the Holy Spirit living inside us, He knows exactly what we need and is faithful to guide us through—step by step.

We’ve all seen what happens when we try to navigate those hard seasons on our own. Things unravel. Our pain deepens. Or worse, it spills over onto others, making the situation heavier than before. I know this firsthand.

But when we surrender our circumstances to God, even without understanding the “why,” something shifts. His peace steadies us. His strength carries us. And His presence gives us what we need to endure—not just to survive the season, but to walk through it well.

So instead of relying on our limited strength or our own understanding, what if we prayed the same simple prayer?

“Lord, help me go through this season well.”

Because with Him, we can.

Verse

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

— Proverbs 3:5–6

Today’s Step

Open your heart before the Lord and name the season you’re in right now. Whether it’s grief, transition, uncertainty, or joy—pray, “Lord, help me walk through this season well, with You at the center.”

  1. Surrender has been the word on my heart these past few weeks. This morning, I was reading in Deuteronomy and chapter 8, verse 3 says that God let the children of Israel know hunger and fed them with things they didn’t understand (manna) so that He could see what was in their hearts, if they would be faithful to Him. Then a cross reference in Hebrews 12:11 says that “for a moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” God is faithful to me as I surrender to Him.

Thank you, Molinda, for this reminder!
