I Choose Today to Take Part in my Spiritual Genealogy

One of the popular things to do is to research one’s genealogy. Finding out who is in one’s family line is intriguing. If there is a discovery that a relative is someone of significance or well known, the person tells everyone who will listen, announce it on social media, and slips it into general conversation.

What about your spiritual genealogy? Most, if not all, of our spiritual genealogy stories draw all the way back to Jesus. Someone heard the gospel from Jesus and believed. That person told someone else about Jesus, being our Savior, how He died for our collective sins (past, present, future), and defeated death by rising from the grave to ensure an eternal life with God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit!

That person told someone else (and believed), that told someone else, and so on until it got to the person (or people) who told you. So your spiritual genealogy started with Jesus! How amazing is that!? You are spiritually related to the Savior of the world!

Since Jesus is the Son of God, we are coheirs with Him, and also children of our precious Heavenly Father. How mind-blowing amazing is this; your genealogy?

Think about all the people who heard, believed, then shared in order for the gospel message to get to you. Now think about the future generations that will hear, believe, and share because of your sharing the gospel message.

Does it seem a little daunting, scary, or not your job? You may not be a pastor or a missionary, after all. How can you, an ordinary person, with an ordinary job, position, and/or sphere of influence continue the spiritual genealogy that solidified your place in God’s family?

By planting seeds the Holy Spirit’s love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22b-23a). By offering a listen by ear, encouraging words, by sharing your story, by going out of your comfort zone, or putting yourself out there (dare I say being vulnerable). Even the tiniest of seed planted into someone else’s life, through the power of the Holy Spirit, can produce much fruit and grow the gospel’s genealogy.

As Paul asks us in Roman’s 10:14, “But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?”

Are you going to continue the legacy of your spiritual genealogical lineage by being the one to tell them?

Join me today in embracing our spiritual heritage and continuing the legacy of sharing the gospel. Let’s be the ones to pass on the message of hope and salvation to future generations. Will you take up the challenge to share the love of Christ with those around you?
